Kristin with Jake, her invaluable assistant

Kristin Thorson is the owner, artist-in-residence, and proprietor of Bronze Age Studios. Kristin had already established herself as an artist, expressing and developing her talent in various forms, including designing one-of-a-kind silver and beaded jewelry, as well as working as a painter of custom faux and mural works. It wasn't long before she discovered her greatest passion, sculpting in metal. Her career as a sculptor began when she became an apprentice to Bill Casteel, working in bronze and copper.

Not only is Kristin able to make a living from her art, but she's found that sculpting in metal is her true passion, and she has grown and thrived, doing what she loves. She now creates and sells copper and bronze sculptures, fountains and lawn ornaments.

Typically, she travels six to eight weeks at a time, creating, showing, and selling her work at festivals and fairs all across the country. She has found an amazing support network in the surprisingly large sub-culture of artists who make their livings and feed their artistic passions in a similar way.

When sculpting, Kristin uses a variety of methods to create her pieces, including hollow-form construction coupled with puddle welding. She uses her barn as a workshop, and it's here that most of her work takes place. When she's traveling, however, she sets up shop at her destination.
